16-18 Sep Art Blurb, Jonathan C. Gordon writes on 17 Sep that it is raining and we are in our tents. The camp is “first rate.” We were sworn into the service on the morning of the 17th. On the 16th, we had a regimental parade where a lot of pretty girls were watching. We are having a good time, standing guard and so I didn’t sleep much. We have a lot of fiddlers and so have a dance every night. Co K, from Putnam County, left Columbus Grove by rail on the 18 Sep arriving in Toledo at 3 PM the same day and at Camp Oliver by 4:00. Pretty homesick, please write soon is a soldier’s refrain.
